What’s usually happening is simpler. Ants nest outside—in soil, mulch, under slabs, or along foundations. Once they find food or moisture indoors, they follow structural pathways like wall voids, plumbing lines, and electrical runs to move through the house unseen.

Our local housing styles make this more common. Basements, garages, slab-to-foundation transitions, and finished walls give ants plenty of hidden routes to travel without being noticed until they appear inside.

Seeing ants emerge from a wall does not automatically mean there’s a nest inside your home. In most inspections, the colony is outside, and the wall is simply the highway.

That’s good news. Outdoor nests are far easier to control long-term than hidden indoor colonies. The key is stopping ants before they reach the wall system in the first place.
