How Long Does a Pest Control Treatment in Southern Maryland and Northern Virginia Last?

How long does pest control last? Well, pest control treatment can last anywhere from 3-6 months to forever depending on the types of pests you’re treating for.

Now, let’s dig a little deeper.

How Long Do General Pest Control Treatments Last?

General pest control covers the extermination of common and non-destructive household pests. This list includes roaches, spiders, moths, pill bugs, and more. More destructive insect-like ants and bedbugs need specialized treatments.

Normally this kind of treatment is applied to the exterior or interior perimeter of the house to make a barrier against unwanted, bug-based, entry. This barrier is not normally affected by rain. So, you won’t need to worry about reapplying during the stormy months.

This treatment usually lasts 3-4 months and should be re-applied quarterly.

How Long Will Ant Pest Treatments Last?

Ants, especially carpenter ants, sugar ants, and termites can quickly become a nuisance in your home. This is especially true in more humid regions like Maryland and Virginia.

Rain and humidity will not affect the chemicals in your pest control treatment. Ants are more active in humid climates and, because of this, wear down pest control measures faster than they would’ve otherwise.

In most cases, an ant treatment will last anywhere between 3-6 months depending on the treatment method used.

In less severe cases, you may be able to extend the life of your treatment. Place poisoned ant traps around your home to discourage any ants from returning and remove any food on the floor.

However, in many cases, DIYing your ant problem is just not an option.
If you begin to notice termites or carpenter ants around your home then you should be calling your local pest control technician immediately.

Like we mentioned above, high humidity can often make an ant infestation worse that it would have been otherwise. So, the sooner you get on top of your problem the better.

This treatment usually lasts 3-6 months and should be re-applied quarterly or bi-annually.

Bed Bug Pest Control: How Long Does It Last?

Like ants, bed bugs require specialized treatments to remove.

Unlike ant treatments, bed bug treatments are likely to be permanent. So long as you and your technician are able to identify the nest of the bed bugs in your home then your bed bug problem will be completely destroyed.

Because bed bug treatments are normally permanent, you will not need to schedule a new visit with your local pest control company. That being said, bed bugs can still be brought into your home by a pet, a friend, or any other traveling bed bug habitat.

So, it’s important to stay vigilant after your bed bug treatment to make sure that your home is not re-infected. With bed bug treatments, how long your pest control lasts is up to you.

What to Do After A Pest Control Treatment

Pest control is half on our shoulders and half on yours. After your treatment, all of your pests should be taken care of. However, that doesn’t mean that they won’t come back.

You can keep your home safe in a couple ways. You can set up traps to discourage pests from returning. You can clean regularly so pests have nowhere to hide, and you can remove any food crumbs/water puddles that might draw them in from the outside.
