Why Do I Have Little Spiders in My Maryland and Virginia Home?

Tiny Spiders in the House? Why These Creepy Crawlers Take Residence

There are about 3,400 species of spiders in North America alone.

Sometimes it can feel like most of them are living in your Maryland or Virginia home.

Do you keep finding hordes of tiny spiders in the house wherever you look?

If so, read on to learn why they take residence and what you can do about it.

Ease of Access

If your home is full of spiders, it may be because your home is very easy for them to access.

Trying to seal your home completely is impossible, but you can still make things as hard as possible. Take a look at the exterior of your house and see if you can spot any obvious cracks or crevices that they may be using to gain entrance. It’s worth taking a look at the seals around your windows too.

Making it harder for spiders to gain access should mean fewer spiders.

Eggs

Once spiders are inside, they can quickly multiply.

Egg sacs can contain two or three hundred eggs, so you want to get rid of them before they hatch. Eggs sacs are usually either woven into webs or carried on the mother. By removing any webs that you can find, and getting rid of any spiders you see, you’re vastly reducing the risk of a new brood of spiders taking over your home.

A vacuum cleaner is a great way to suck up both spiders and webs, but make sure your empty it afterward or your vacuum cleaner may become a spider’s nest!

Food Sources

Spiders will only stay in your home if there is enough to eat.

Since spiders like to dine on other insects, removing any insects you can from your home will mean that the spiders won’t have enough food and will have to look elsewhere.

Pests such as mosquitos, ants, flies, and other insects all make delicious treats for spiders, so be sure to keep them out of your home.

How Do I Get Rid of Them?

If you’ve done your best to stop them getting in, removed any that you’ve found, and cut off their food supply as best you can, you may still find that you have tiny spiders sharing your home.

The best thing to do in this case is to call in the professionals. Pest control services can use safe and effective methods to ensure that your home remains pest-free.
