What Do Professionals Use to Kill Spiders in Southern Maryland?

There are around 30-35 known species of Maryland spiders. That list does include the black widow and the brown recluse, which are in the poisonous category of the species. The brown recluse population isn’t a native but is still present.

Some spider species, such as the cobweb spider or the wolf spider, love to find their way inside your home, especially during the fall when the cooler weather starts. They’re looking for a warm place to set up shop.

This invasion is usually unwanted and preventable. We’ve put together a quick guide on how to kill spiders like a professional so you can sleep without fear.

Together, we’ll declutter, clean, and lay a barrier to keep them out for good.

Decluttering Tactics

Spiders love hiding places. If you have a lot of things stored in boxes or bags in your home, they’re sure to move in.

Black widows especially love dark spaces. So be very careful when going through your things.

Moving some of that clutter out will help reduce the risk of a spider moving in if they don’t have a safe space to hide.

Food Removal

Spiders feed on other insects. You’ll draw insects to your home with food crumbs hanging around. Cleaning all the surfaces within your cupboards will help you eliminate these pests.

To get rid of spiders, you must first eliminate the spider’s food supply. They don’t want to remain in your home if there aren’t any midnight snacks available.

Natural insect-repelling products include:

  • Vinegar and water spray
  • Diatomaceous earth
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Cornmeal
  • Dish soap spray
  • Essential oils (species-specific)

Professional eliminators include:

  • Insect traps
  • Residual Insecticide

Treatment and Prevention

If you want to get rid of spiders like a professional exterminator, you might want to start with an insect glue board. Spiders inhabit dark, moist spaces.

When you place it in your bathroom or kitchen area, they walk across the sticky surface, get stuck, and eventually die there.

Another tip is to spray a reoccurring insecticide throughout your home, especially in unintentional openings. Fill in cracks or holes in your walls, baseboards, or floors with caulking after spraying.

Creating a perimeter around your home with diatomaceous earth helps keep them out, too. When spiders and insects crawl across it, the diatomaceous earth creates cuts all over them which causes them to die eventually.

Now You Know How To Kill Spiders

Spiders are mysterious, scary to some, and fascinating to others. But they don’t have to be an unwelcome guest in your home.

If you keep the clutter down, clean and dust regularly, and keep other insects out of your home, you should stay spider-free.
