Even still, not many people are looking to share their living rooms and bedrooms with our eight-legged friends!

There are a variety of reasons why spiders might setting up residence in your home. So let’s take a closer look at what attracts spiders in the house.

While house spiders might not have the cognitive capacity to actually desire to help you out, one of the main reasons they’ve turned up at your door is to help you keep your home insect-free. Dampness and Humidity

A lot of insects are attracted to areas with lots of moisture, for the same reason that we like to have a bottle of water handy when we get thirsty. If you want to deter spiders, then its best to keep your home dry and airy. Garage spaces and cellars are often the dampest places in a home, so its no surprise you often find spiders there.

Bright Lights

Have you ever noticed that if you leave an outside light on at night it’s not long before there are swarms of insects flying around it? One of the theories is that light signifies that the path is not blocked by predators, so they head in that direction. If insects are heading to lights at night for safety, then you can be sure spiders will be along shortly for dinner.

Take Out The Trash

Having any open trash can lids can quickly attract the attention of flies in and out of the house. Be sure to take out the trash inside your home regularly to reduce any odors that flies might latch on to. You can be sure that if there are flies present, then there will be spiders too.

Plants

Most insects are herbivores, so they’ll feed on any plants you have around your home. The more plants you have near and inside your home, the more bugs there will be for spiders to feed on.

Essentially whatever keeps insects out of your home will do a good job of keeping arachnids away too. You can also help keep spiders outside by sealing any gaps they might enter through. The most common means of entry for a spider are:

  • Gaps around windows and doors
  • Gaps in floorboards or any holes that lead to crawl-spaces
  • Garage doors with gaps along with their trim
  • Chimneys that aren’t fitted with a proper chimney cap
