How Do You Get Rid of Mice Yourself?

How Do You Get Rid of Mice Yourself

There are over 30 species of mice

If you have noticed a mouse in your house, you may feel like all of these species have come to live with you!

In this article, we’ll look at how to get rid of mice yourself. If you follow all of these tactics, then you might be surprised to find that the mice don’t return.

1. Locate and Fill Any Holes

Mice can fit through absolutely tiny holes. If you can fit a pen through any hole you find in your home, then a mouse can definitely fit through.

Spend an afternoon walking through your house, trying to find where the mouse is entering.

As soon as you find a hole, clean up the area with disinfectant spray and paper towels. Wear gloves and a mask to do this. Then, use steel wool to fill the hole and silicone caulking to cover it.

Although this is a very simple solution, especially if you know how the mouse is entering your home, you may be surprised to find that it works!

2. Never Leave Food Out

During the warmer months, mice tend to live outdoors. It’s only when the temperature drops that they enter your home to look for somewhere warm to sleep.

They’re also always on the lookout for food. If your kitchen always has crumbs, leftovers, or bread out on the countertop, this is inviting the mouse in

Before you go to bed, make sure your kitchen is absolutely spotless. Wipe it over with a cleaning solution and then do the same in the morning too.

3. Try a Peppermint Oil Solution

Even though this essential oil has many benefits for humans, mice don’t like the smell of peppermint. Supposedly, it makes their skin itch when they brush past the essential oil too.

Why not try filling a small bottle with water and add a few drops of peppermint oil? Spray this on the steel wool or around the baseboards of your home.

You’re repelling mice and making your house smell nice! Although there is not much evidence to support this claim, it’s worth trying it out to see whether it works for you.

4. Play a High Pitched Frequency All Night

Although mice are not strictly nocturnal, we do see them more during the night so that they can hide from larger animals!

So, while you’re sleeping, why not play a high pitched sound from your speakers? You won’t be able to hear it, but the mouse will!

This is a hotly debated topic, some people believe it doesn’t work while others swear by it. Simply hook up your laptop to your speakers and choose from the many mice repellants sounds on YouTube.
